(various pagings) The study initially concerns itself with a structural analysis of the Philippine economy to ascertain the effects of an import substitution program on interindustry linkages and on the economy's potential for industrial growth. It goes on by relating factor intensities derived from the input-output table to external trade to assess the resource costs of import substitution vis a vis export expansion. Having preferred export expansion, the relative export performance of the five Asean member states is then brought under close scrutiny to determine the areas of "revealed" comparative advantage. Finally, with the assumption that political will prevails among the member states, the direct effects of a ten percent reduction in tariffs across the board on all commodities is then determined under a static context.
