  <abstract>Direct current is assuming considerable importance in the Asian region in recent years.  The load flow analysis is one of the powerful tools by which an AC-DC system is analyzed  both for planing and operation strategies. This thesis presents the development of an algorithm  suitable for application in the load flow analysis of AC-DC systems. Three methods of  controlling a DC line have been described in this report.  A simplified version of the AC-DC load flow method with all of capacities of  established fast decoupled methods is shown to have the best qualities of sequential solution  AC-DC combined. Next, important features such as discrete taps, distinction between  scheduled voltage and scheduled angle controls, fixed taps and extended phase controls, and  current limits are incorporated to enhance the versatility method. These algorithms have been  tested on a EGA T system and the computed results have been presented.</abstract>
