IM-13-02 aFinding the solutions for reducing energy consumption in smart homes is significant because of global warming problems nowadays. The main aim of this research is to propose a hybrid semantic energy saving service for Cloud - based smart homes. It firstly mentions the ar chitecture cooperating with the Cloud for smart homes. The architecture not only adapt existing solution inside the home, connecting between home gateway and devices though home network using Device Profile for Web service (DPWS), but also define new compo nents of semantic platform on the Cloud where Energy producer, Service provider and existing data source integrated together to provide services for home. It then goes in detail hybrid energy saving service based on the architecture. In the first approach, it visualizes the energy consumption of device, home, and system context in order to support consumers make decision to manual control the devices for energy saving. The core technique of second approach is energy saving rules. It is created from device, home, and system energy saving policies so that proposed system can automatically control the device status following these pre - defined rules. Moreover, in the third part of hybrid approach, it may find out possible periodic and sequential patterns of user behaviors and automatically converts to the automatic rules which will be used in the second approach. Thus, the service has the ability to self - adapt and personalize. Finally, the prototype is developed to implement the proposed service based on the arch itecture. aA thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Information Management, School of Engineering and Technology aThesis (M.Sc.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 2013 0aSemantic Web 0aWeb services 0aEnergy conservation1 aDailey, Mathew N.,eExamination Committee0 aVatcharaporn Esichaikul,eExamination Committee1 aLee, Gyu Myoung,eExamination Committee1 aJanecek, Paul,eChairperson2 aFord Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP),eScholarship donor2 aAsian Institute of Technology.tThesis ;vno.
