  <abstract>The purpose of this thesis is to present an approach called " Iconic Graphical Query Interface for Database" which is a new approach in retrieving required information from the database. The approach used in this study are from the "Principles of User Interface Design" and the "Visual Programming". It is believed that by thinking of a query visually, the user can more easily access to the desired information from the database than by the textual query used in conventional way nowadays. In thinking of query visually, a tool to utilize this kind of thinking process is needed to be developed. This study will emphasis on the development of graphic interaction system called " IGI" which will act as the front-end tool to enhance the user to express his thought of queries into graphical format. The interaction of user to the system requires interacting with graphic, hence good interface design turn up to be as important. The aim of the system is for serving the user with little or no experience in the database information retrieval. The system must regard the "ease-of- use and learn" as the major concern .</abstract>
