  <abstract>This paper reports on a study done on the maintenance system  of an integrated pulp and paper mill. An investigation of the  major causes of machine breakdowns and their possible prevention  was conducted using a simplified version of the snap-shot model ling technique. A maintenance-by-priority system was formulated  establishing machine criticality indices. Finally, three preven tive maintenance policies, formulated on the basis of limiting  efficiency and long run expected cost per unit time, were utilized.
