The Manufacturers of animal drawn ploughs have little idea of the shape-draft relationship. The plough bottoms of various shapes which are popular in the region have been tested in dry sandy loam soil conditions in a soil bin, using strain gauge mounted load rings, at typical speed and ploughing depth for animals. A significant variation in the horizontal, vertical and side forces was found. all the plough bottoms showed a common tendency of inverting soil in fairly equal amounts both to right and left. Only a small variation in soil inversion angles was seen.
