The problem of the propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves through layered media is of considerable engineering interest. Several studies analyzed the field strength of EM signal using the Field Theory solution which gives the exact numerical results. Here in this research, the behaviour of VHF-UHF signals in air-vegetation-ground media is studied using Plane-wave solution and compared with the Field Theory approach. The electric field and its components are obtained in the three layers for both cases and compared through computation. The results are found to be satisfactorily in agreement. Computationally the Plane-wave approach is faster. The choice of which approach to use depends on the balance between precision required in the calculation of the fields and the speed of computation.
