78 p. This thesis is concerned with those elements of bidding strategies proposed and advanced by several researchers in the construction industry. Bidding strategies differ from one another in their formulations, assumptions behind it, the assessment of probability, objective functions and manipulation of data. A contractor who wishes to employ a bidding strategy may find it difficult to decide what type of bidding strategy to adopt. This work examines some of the conflicting bidding strategies in a formal way but without the use of complex mathematics. Each bidding strategy is tried using the same set of data and the end results are critically compared, so that in addition to the contractor's experience, judgement, intuition, and, common sense, he can choose a bidding strategy appropriate for himself.
