A DS-SSMA system model which applied windowing functions at the transmitter and at the correlator receiver is presented. Two windowing schemes are considered in this study -- the data bit windowing and the chip windowing. An analytical expression for the signal-to-noise interference-ratio (SNR) is developed for both schemes to determine the system performance using various windows. Effects on the correlation of pseudo-noise (PN) sequences are investigated and numerical results are presented. It is shown that both schemes result in an improved lower crosscorrelation values but an unsatisfactorily reduced peak in the autocorrelation function. Based on these resulting characteristics, the system performance is degraded with the use of windowing functions and that the rectangular window, equivalent to no windowing applied, is still unequaled.
