The purpose of this study is to understand the significance of different variables/parameters which control the scour depth of the circular pier, and, to identify the applicability of some working equations which were obtained by other investigators. Two kinds of sands and three sizes of circular piers were used in this experiment, and 16 runs were performed under different flow conditions. Some equations found by other investigators are discussed in relative to the results obtained from this study and finally a design criterion for estimating the likely scour depth of the circular pier for the case of scour with continuous sediment motion is established.
