<br/><br/> The study undertaken was aimed at examining the  applicability of remote sensing and geographic  information system for providing necessary  information to be used in tropical rain forest  management. Specifically it illustrated the  usefulness of both remote sensing and GIS  techniques in identifying appropriate logging area  based upon defined criteria. Consequently, proper  planning such as selecting suitable logging  method to be used can be formulated based on the  information. In addition to that it was discovered  that by using remote sensing technique, it is  possible to gather information on the extent and  quality of the forest, specifically to  differentiate between disturbed and highly degraded  forest from undisturbed forest. Necessary action  can then be taken to improve these forests, hence  promoting them for future timber production.
