    <subfield code="a">As tall buildings has become an important part of the infrastructure. They are considered as  symbol of development as a result many developing countries are moving towards tall  buildings infrastructure as they hold many advantages like accommodate large population  in small area and also act as a tourist attraction. Various structural systems are used for the  design and construction of tall buildings such as Bearing Wall system, Building Frame  System, Dual system etc. This study focuses on the Building Frame System in which 100%  of lateral loads are resisted by lateral system and gravity system only resists gravity loads.  In performance based MCE level evaluation of building frame system, members in lateral  system are modelled as nonlinear and extent of damage is assessed in terms of deformation  demand. However, members not designated as part of lateral system are modelled as linear  and provide the moment releases in them so that the seismic forces are not transferred to  them. Absence of explicit evaluation of gravity system against lateral loads results in  unrealistic design. This study is centred on two modelling approaches for gravity-only  framing in performance-based seismic design. The performance of the structural system will be evaluated by using two modelling approaches under Maximum Considered  Earthquake. In the 1st modelling approach, nonlinearities are considered in the lateral  system only. Gravity frame is modelled as linear and moment releases are applied so that  the gravity frame does not participate in the lateral system during the lateral analysis. In the  2nd modelling approach, nonlinearities in both the lateral system and gravity frame are considered. Force redistribution between lateral system and gravity frame are considered  during the analysis. The results of both the modelling approaches are evaluated and  compared and it is concluded that by including the gravity frame in the lateral analysis  improves the overall structural behavior and response of the building. </subfield>
