  <abstract>Areal variations of short duration rainfall of  {u00BD}-hr., 1-hr.,  2-hr. and 24-hr. are examined in terms of inter-station correlations  over Bangkok having an area of 300 km².   Since the number of automatic  recording gages are not sufficient to describe the areal patterns of the first three durations, a method of reducing the daily records of the standard raingages to these durations is used. Inter-station correlation coefficients are computed for the 55-raingage network. They are then transformed to the Fisher's z-values. These transformed coefficients of correlation are found to diminish gradually with distance. The variation is reasonably explained for  all the four durations by the selected functions: z = Ae -Bx and Z = C + D  tn x , where Z is the transformed coefficient of correlation, x is the interstation distance in kms, and A,B,C,D are coefficients. </abstract>
