Sc.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1995 N2 - Arsenic pollution in Dianchi Lake have been studied based on available data. Dianchi Lake receives a great mount of industrial and domestic wastewater. Pollutants like arsenic that maintain in the lake for long time are accumulated in the sediment. The condition of water environment deterioration will reduce the potential usage of water, influence the live of aquatics and damage human health. Internal Lake, the northern part of Dianchi Lake has been seriously polluted by arsenic. Arsenic concentration in Outer Lake is presently below the required standard, but has increased slowly. A source inventory and a mass balance for the arsenic pollution of the lake has been established. Water balance is also studied. An arsenic concentration trend model has been set up to assess the arsenic condition in the future after the Lake is split completely into two parts by a sand dyke. This was done in 1994 to save Outer Lake. By the arsenic model, trends in arsenic concentration in the future has be predicted. The model is corrected for release from the sediment pool of arsenic. Some mitigation measures has been recommended in order to protect Dianchi Lake UR - http://203.159.5.9/ait-thesis/detail.php?q=B15183 ER -
