A numerical model for water fl ow and sediment transport in a river is made up to analyze the scour and deposition of the river. In the calculation of sediment transport in this model, a median grainsize and distributed grain-sizes can be taken into account separately. Firstly, this model is tested by using the data of the Chao Phya River. Secondly, the effect of grain- size distribution on the change of a river bed elevation is examined with the use of various grain-size distributions under the simplified conditions. It is demonstrated that the calculated results based on distributed grain-size are different from those based on the median grain-size, and that the distribution pattern of grain-size affects the sediment transport and the change of bed configuration.
