Three difrerent oper ting strategies were applied in order to find the potential of nitrogen and phosphorus r mova1. Different duration of anoxic/ naerobic. anoxic nd aerobic phases were applied in three reactors of each strategy. Based on the results fro this study. nitrifying b ct ri w re able to urvive and a1 0 gav satisfactory perform nce under th equence of anoxic - aerobic environment. Applying sequence of noxic - aerobic ph ses in the reactor during long period of substrate fe ding can get the relatively high nitrogen re ov 1 efficiency. Nitrogen removal by endogenous denitrification lso play significant role in the strategy where short feeding period was used. Biological phosphorus removal, so called "luxury uptake". was not ob rved in this study. High removal (95 - 99%> of TOC w maintained in all three str tegies of inter ittent activated sludge process.
