The given information to the students during orientation although relatively complete, is not practically useful enough. Having no knowledge of course content, the students are found to be taking courses which are totally opposite to what they should be doing. This is raising significant problems as the students are not satisfied and face difficulties in following courses which are not their interest. The Object-oriented Knowledge-based Student Orientation Information System (SOIS) presented in this thesis work , could help make a rational and consistent decision by the user, in this case AIT students. It is shown that object-oriented approach knowledge-base methods and techniques applied to analyze the problem domain, to design, to implement and to maintain the system. The developed prototype system has a lot of diverse features not only for the users but also for the system analysts who are going to actually implement it. One of the key features of this application is that its reusable and extendible code makes it very easy for further enhancement. The application has been implemented in KnowledgePro Window programming environment which supports Object Oriented features, Rule-based system and hypertext. And the result of using the combination of object-oriented concept, knowledge-based and hypertext features in SOIS that it is modular, more maintainable, extendible and reusable than conventional approach.
