Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1984 N2 - The problem of selecting the economically optimal pipe diameters in a looped water distribution system is formulated as a linear programming by Lai and Schaake (9) for a given set of node heads. Later Quindry et al.. (10) proposed a method that a given set of node heads can be modified to obtain an improved cost by determining the direction in which the node heads should be modified. The present study improves and clarifies this idea by suggesting a systematic way of selecting stepsize in the descent direction and. stopping criterion for the iterative process of modifying the node beads and thus always guarantees a local optimal solution. The algorithm is tested on two test problems and considerable improvement to initial solution is achieved UR - http://203.159.5.9/ait-thesis/detail.php?q=B20748 ER -
