The simulation model was developed based on the IEEE 802.5 Token Ring standard which employs the optional priority mechanism described in this standard. Real-time traffic are characterized as those which are guaranteed to be delivered within a prespecif ied delay upperbound. Real-time packets delivered after its deadline are considered lost. Network parameters such as the number of nodes that support real-time traffic" the packet sizes of both real time and nonreal-time packets, and the percentage of real-time traffic in the network were varied in order to demonstrate their effect on the mean delay and throughput performance of the real time Token Ring LAN.
