Compressive strength, chloride ion penetrability and carbonation depth of metakaolin (MK) concretes were studied. Concretes were replaced with 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% of MK. Water to binder (w/b) ratios of MK concretes were fixed at 0.55 and 0.65. MK concretes were cured in water for different curing periods at 7, 14 and 28 days before those were stored in the carbonation chamber under accelerated environmental conditions for 1, 3 and 7 days. Compressive strength of MK concretes was measured by using Universal Testing Machine (UTM); whereas chloride ion penetrability and carbonation depth were measured by using rapid chloride penetrability test (RCPT) and 1% phenolphthalein indicator test. The empirical model for carbonation depth prediction of MK concretes was formulated by regression analysis based on t he results of carbonation depth of MK concretes in this study. The results showed that the compressive strengths of concretes which were replaced with MK up to 30% were higher than those of normal concretes; however, the trend of compressive strengths of MK concretes which the amount of MK replacement was excess 20% was dropped. On chloride ion penetrability and carbonation depth of MK concretes, it was exhibited that concretes which were replaced with MK up to 3 0% had better performances than normal concretes when compared at the same curing periods and mix proportions. It also showed that compressive strength, chloride resistance and carbonation resistance of normal and MK concretes were higher when w/b ratio was decreased and curing period was increased.
