Over a decade, wells drilled by the Soviet Union in the 1960s and 1980s were abandoned and left open as an icon of exploration and hydrocarbon existence and potential in North part of Afghanistan basins. After the collision of Indian and Eurasian plates, it divided the Northern portion into Amu Darya and Afghan Tajik basin. The Afghan Tajik basin is a part of the prolific Amu Darya basin. This basin is one of the productive hydrocarbon basins in Afghanistan and it has the greatest potential for crude oil accumulations. The study was aimed to perform the 1D Petroleum System Modeling and to estimate the hydrocarbon volume in Afghan Tajik basin. The geological and geochemical data were collected and used to run PetroMod 1D software. Hydrocarbon generation and expulsion were calcul ated by Schmoker (1994) and Claypool et.al (2002) methods. The three layers which are Baysum, Gissar and Givar in study area have been found as a good potential source rocks. The findings of Petroleum System modeling and analytical assessment from source rocks i.e., Bayum formation ( from 4,170 to 4 , 870m depth ), Gissar formation ( from 3,770 to 4,170m depth ) and Givar formation ( from 1 , 288 to 1 , 333m depth) confirmed the presence of source rocks in Afghan Tajik basin with good potential of generation and expulsion of hydrocarbon
