  <abstract>Conventional chemical precipitation methods need high chemical dosage and extra reactors to obtain an acceptable phosphorus reduction. These are the major prohibitive factors when this process is considered.  In a rotating biological contactor, phosphorus removal can be achieved with a rather low Al/P ratio and no extra facility needed. It is clear to see that simultaneous ·removal in a RBC has certain advantages over  the conventional precipitation method. pH is a major consideration which strongly affects phosphorus removal efficiency. in this process, pH is not so strictly limited as the precipitation-method does,  During the whole experiment, chemical dose had no adverse effect on COD, NH4-N and SS removal. </abstract>
