Physical and chemical analyses of Bangkok's refuse were made from both residential and market sources. Average heat content ranged from 1840 to 2420 gross BTU per pound. The effect of increasing plastics on the heat content of the refuse and on incineration was evaluated. Studies were made to determine the need for pretreatment of the refuse to improve combustion conditions. Drying for one to two days at 5-10 ems depth proved effective in reducing auxiliary BTU input needed for start-up burning of the refuse by 80 percent.
