  <abstract>Municipal canal water quality includes chemical, physical, and biological elements that can be affected by a number of variables, including agricultural operations, residential and commercial waste disposal, and precipitation runoff. Aquatic ecosystems, human health, and city livability  can all be negatively impacted by poor water quality. Another big issue with city canals is flooding, particularly in metropolitan areas with poor drainage systems. It has the potential to  reduce runoff and enhance water quality by utilizing green techniques for stormwater  management and natural rivers and canals. To address flood and water quality issues in canals,  communities must conduct periodic water quality assessments, enforce pollution control  measures, develop their towns efficiently, and adhere to sustainable design principles. Klong Mae Kha, formerly known as "Nam Mae Kha," was an important component of Chiang Mai's ancient water drainage system and has a tourist attraction in Thailand. However, it has gotten worse as a result of the rapid development and population expansion. The naturalsystem of the river, the water quality, and rising floods in inner city regions have all been adversely affected by factors such water pollution, waste dumping, and preservation negligence. To solve these problems and return the canal to its previous condition, sustainable development initiatives are essential.  To address these issues, a number of natural based solutions have been suggested from  literature review and confirmed through sensitivity analysis of water quality model of the study  area, for instance Bio Retention Cell, Permeable Pavement, Infiltration Trench, Vegetative  Swales, Constructed Wetlands, and By-Pass System. However, it is an enormous challenge with ensuring the application of these solutions. An ELECTRE MCDA model was used in this study to address the problem and determine the best solutions based on factors like flood control effectiveness, total solids control, BOD control and cost-effectiveness which identifies  a constructed wetland as the optimal approach for effectively reducing flood, BOD, and total  solids. Moreover, the outcomes found in this thesis can be used for additional design and  implementation of NBS development in the study area and also can apply similar approach to  other city canals over the world.</abstract>
