  <abstract>The integration of the planned 14.S MW hydro power scheme at Taldena near Badulla and a proposed wind power scheme. on the coast near Hambantota  in which large wind generators supply electric power to the grid for consumption around Hambantota has been studied by monthly simulation of the  reservoir level and total electrical power output with the help of historical hydrological and wind speed data. The proposed wind power scheme consists of one, two or three 2.5 MW wind generators whose function is to save reservoir water during windy periods occurring in the dry season. Assuming a payback period of 20 years for the wind generators it has been found that  increasing the number of wind generators greatly reduces the cost of the electricity produced, which is expected to fall in the range 0.10 US$ per kWh to 0.03 US$ per kWh.</abstract>
