Starting from 1988 comprehensive and great reforms took places, the main objective of which was to achieve the transition towards a market economy in the shortest possible time. Reforms have covered a wide spectrum of policies including price liberalization, privatization and development of new institutions for macroeconomic management. In this study the past trend of overall economy and energy consumption was analyzed in detail with description of present situation. The overall economy was studied in detail in correlation with each energy sub-sectors. Then, the different energy sub-sectors were analyzed, in terms of their past to present energy demand and supply patterns. The energy demand by different energy forms were projected for the period 1990-2010, using a macro-economic method and supply expansion programs were carried out with the help of a model adequate to determine the supply/demand balance. Different energy mix supply scenarios were tested, and conclusions were draw out as to their merits and drawbacks.
