Response ductility reduction factors (m-factors) were investigated on both 42- story and 30-story RC dual system buildings. This study covers the deformation- controlled actions of beams, shear walls, and coupling beams. Based on the data extracted from time history analysis at increasing hazard levels, local ductility reduction is showed to be higher than story ductility reduction and story ductility reduction is higher than global ductility reduction (mL > ms > me). Moreover, ductility demand presents a nonlinear increase while local ductility response reduction showed a linear increase with respect to the spectral geometric mean. Consequently, mL and /1L relationship for all members presents a nonlinear increase. Relationships between local and global ductility response reduction factors were also established based on the regression of different parameters (me, /11> Sa). In this case, if the local ductility demand is taken as the basis of design, the local ductility response reduction (md can be determined or vice versa. The proposed relationship is based on the idea that the ductility reduction factor should be applied locally since different nonlinearities are experienced by each member. It was evaluated using a 40- story case study building and the result showed a good prediction of the true nonlinear demands in comparison with the linear demands based on reducing the forces at the global level.
