  <abstract>Single- site streamflow generation is a technique to produce a desired synthetic sequence of any length of streamflows of any river in  which a design of operation of water resources systems is concerned. It consists of a mathematical model which requires parameters that are  estimated from a set of historical data, and the generation of random variables of a certain distribution. Besides the normal distributed variable which lacks an important characteristic of a real streamflow sequence of being skew- distributed, gamma and beta distributed variables  are introduced as well as the methods for generating them with FORTRAN subroutines ready for general use. Four mathematical models are presented in this study, they are all intended to reproduce the first two moments of the historical flows. Many modifications attempted to make them preserve the third moment are carried out for each model and the ready computer programs are also provided. The CPU times, consumed by the models based on the IBM/145 computer system available at the Asian Institute of Technology, are compared to evaluate their performance.</abstract>
