In this study the production was considered as cyclic and continuous. The optimal ordering policies for parts as well as optimal lot size to produce are considered in order to minimise long-run average cost. The long run average cost comprises of the setup cost, parts as well as finished product holding cost and the cost of backlogging. A generalised expression for total cost function per unit time for general N parts is obtained and the corresponding mathematical formulation is given, with properties of the objective function. Extensive numerical experiments are presented for two and three part problems. Explanations for the behaviour of optimal solutions with regard to model parameter change is presented and some prominent observations are also given. The second model with similar structure and decision variables as above but constant part procurement lead time and stochastic demand for final product is also presented with characteristics of objective function. Numerical experiment is presented for this for two part problem. Comparison of optimal solutions with above case is also given UR - http://203.159.5.9/ait-thesis/detail.php?q=B15409 ER -
