This study conducted is a totally different representation of the homestead or homegarden which is so common in all over the world. The usual homestead structure follows the Javanese style where the output of the trees and the vegetables in the homestead are the source of income for the household. It is different for the homesteads under this study as it shows the conversion of the homesteads into nursery seedling production which acts as the cash crop. This system is unique as no studies for comparison has been found. Countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal who are agriculture based follow the regular Javanese style. Another uniqueness of the Project is the efficient use of the female force in the area. The management and controlle of the homestead as nurseries is looked after by the female members of the household. The study looked at the various reasons for them being successful and the factors that enables them to survive as managers. Finally, recommendations have been made based on the project, government and the International N.G.O.s who are involved in the betterment process.
