This is mainly intended for offline use although on-line application is possible. The input (fuel cost) vs output (MW) curves for thermal unit are linearly approximated and transmission losses are neglected. Daily available water for hydroelectric generation is considered to be deterministic. The one day period is divided into a number of equal but relatively small intervals. Output of each generati.ng units at each time interval is treated as a decision variable. A linear programming model is then formulated to schedule of generating units with the objective of minimizing the fuel cost. Constraints of the model include the maximum and minimum capacities of each unit, load fluctuation rate, amount of water available for hydroelectric generation.
