In the Thailand Department of Highways (DOH) Projects of the, Second Bangkok Chonburi Highway and Outer Bangkok Ring Road Projects, the preloading with prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) were used to improve the subsoil layer. The instrumentation were installed to measure the behaviour of foundation soil under the highway embankment loading in the field. The observed settlement data were considered to provide us with reliable and direct information which are representative of the soil mass in the subsoil. In this study, soil parameters were determined by back-calculation. ASAOKA method was used to back-calculate the soil parameters from the monitoring data. The back-figured horizontal coefficient of consolidation (C11) was used to predict the amount and rate of settlements. Good agreement were obtained in case of ASAOKA method. One-dimensional and SKEMPTON & BJERRUM method were slightly higher in both highway embankment except section 2A/1 of SBCH which is rather high. The back-calculated C11 value of SBCH range from 8.6 to 87 m 2 /yr and 11 to 40 m 2 /yr for OBRR. The alternative construction sequence were predict by using the back-figured soil parameters in combination with SHANSEP method. The preloading time was reduced to about 2 to 4 months using the alternative construction sequence compared to the original proposed one
