520 _aHourly wind velocity data for one year have been used to determine the seasonal velocity distribution curves and power duration curves at four stations in Thailand (Chiangmai, Ubon, Bangkok and Hatyai), The results were fitted to Weibull distributions, which has the form F(v) =1 - exp [ - (c)K ] v where F(v) is. the cumulative relative frequency of hours at which velocity v was reported, and C and K are parameters. The parameters K were different at different stations but the same in all seasons, varying from 1.2 t o 2.0. At each station calm conditions were reported for durations of time varying from 25% to 71% of the total in one season. The mean wind velocities during the non-calm periods, which are related to the parameter C, range from 0.4 m/sec in the period of November to January at Chiangmai t o 3. 0 m/sec in the period of November to January at Ubon. The energy that could be extracted from the wind by means of three types of irrigation wind pump (soil rotor type, two-bladed rotor type and fan type) has been calculated from the wind velocity distributions. The extractable from the wind for three-month season ranges from 0.28 kWH/m2 in the period of August to October at Bangkok to 132. 7 kWH/m2 in the period of November to January at Ubon.
