520 _aThis study has been carried out to design a computerized serials control information system, which covers the system analysis, system design, and a partial implementation for the Library and Regional Documentation Center (LRDC) of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The system study was conducted with the help of the staff of the serials unit of the LRDC to gather information of the existing serials control system to establish the necessary objectives and requirements for the system design. Then the requirements and objectives were laid down in the system analysis phase and proposed system. To develop the design, special attention was given to the accomplishment of serials control functions and to the interface between the system and the users. A menu plus form filling technique was designed to make the system more simple and efficient for the users. In regard to the proposed on - line system, it will be operated under CDS/ISIS software package (which is operated under IBM CICS/VS). Such approach was adopted, using Assembler as the programming language, IBM DMS/CMS supports for the screen management, and Virtual Storage Access Method for the file organization. An outline of the manual procedure and developing cost are given. A partial implementation emphasizes on the man machine dialogue and daily claim control. For the application programmers who want to maintain this system, it may be necessary to read chapter IV and V through in order to carry out these operations more quickly and efficiently. Those serials staff who are going to handle the input and files are kindly suggested to refer to chapter V so that they can perform their task efficiently.
