520 _aThis study is related to the accident analysis for location and road user movement in Taipei City. The data collected included exact location, date and time, road and light condition, traffic control, and vehicle types of accident, etc. The data were transcribed from the original report forms of Taipei Police Headquarters. For the great amount of data and the large number of variables involved in the causation of every accident, the computer provided a useful method of sorting, tabulating, computing, and printing the "transformed data in this study. Based on the "Coding of Road User Movement" developed in Australia, a coding system of road user movement suitable for "right-side" driving has been introduced in order to define the general patterns of accidents. The output of the computer displayed that right-angle collisions and pedestrian accidents accounted for great number of accidents at intersections and mid-block, respectively. Therefore, the related analyses were made. The general patterns of the date and time, vehicle types, road types, severity and costs of accidents were explored. Also, an analysis particularly related to motorcycle accidents was made, due to their large proportion in Taiwan accidents. Lastly, the conclusions of this study and recommendations for future work and the Authorities concerned in Taipei were made.
