520 _aThe aim of this research work was to evaluate the performance of different types of prefabricated floor systems commonly used in Thailand. The specimens used were precast channel, single-tee and precast-prestressed hollow-core slabs. The testing methods were in accordance with ASTM Designation E72. The specimens were tested for both simple and two-span supports with cast-in-situ reinforced concrete topping in order to investigate the effect of continuity at the support. The loads and deflections based on theoretical analysis were determined and compared with experimental results. Test results revealed that the safety factor for the composite slabs, based on the maximum permissible computed deflection specified by ACI 318-77, ranged from 2.0 to 5.3. For slabs having low load carrying capacity, the topping could significantly increase the overall load carrying capacity of the slab when the effect of continuity was taken into account. On the other hand, for stronger sections e.g. the precast hollow-core slab the overall load carrying capacity of the section, taking into account the effect of continuity, was not influenced by the effect of topping.
