| 520 | _aThe present study pertains to utilize sugar cane waste into animal feed by the process of ensiling. Molasse and urea were used as additives. Two runs were carried. In the first, 4 levels of molasse doses (2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10 per cent of fresh weight tops) were used. In the second run, same molasse doses with a constant dose of urea, 0.15 per cent, was used. The ensiling time was kept 30 days and analyses were performed. The results showed that in run I, the most appropriate molasse dose was 7.5 per cent. The silage prepared with this dose had highest amount of lactic acid and lowest butyric acid. The feed analysis showed that this silage contained 30.37 per cent dry matter and 8.72 per cent crude protein. The silage was readily acceptable to animal. In run II, the lest quality of silage was obtained using 10 per cent molasse with 0.15 per cent urea. Finally it was concluded that locally available abundant sugar cane waste can be efficiently and economically utilized as alternate animal feed through ensiling process. | ||
