This study was focused in a medium scale palm oil mill, located in Ao Luk, Thailand. Currently, the capacity of the mill is 30 tons FFB/h. The factory is using 27 m3 /h of fresh water in the process and producing 39 m3 /h of wastewater. Scrubber unit is producing 30m3 /h wastewater and consuming 74 m /h to trap the solid particulate from the flue gas. The color of effluent from the mill is 840 ADMI and 250 mg/L alum dose is optimum to remove the color to the level of no objection. In this study, boiler modification to control air pollution as well as minimize scrubber wastewater, automation of sterilization operation were identified as the potential options for wastewater minimization. For improvement of effluent treatment plant, dilution of wastewater by recycling effluent, mixing scrubber and process wastewater to adjust pH, deep anaerobic ponds, training for the operator and continuous monitoring of treatment system were potential options to reach effluent standards. | ||
