520 _aBleachability of kraft pulps cooked from different kinds of chip, namely Acacia auriculiformis, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, and their mixture was investigated. Cooking with the mixture of chips limited the development of brightness ceiling. The kappa factor in Do stage being suitable for acacia pulp with inlet kappa value 11.83 was 0.20. Similarly, end pH value in D₀ stage around 2.5 gave the best performance for D₀ bleaching. Hot acid treatment substantially increased brightness while strength properties did not suffer. By contrary, high temperature and long retention time in D₀ stage were only marginally improved pulp quality. Hot acid treatment without coupling a consequent washing stage also had a good tendency towards brightness but strength properties of bleached pulp was heavily suffered. Formaldehyde showed positive effect in term of improving pulp quality and it was a good suggestion for the saving of chlorine dioxide in ECF bleaching. Hydrogen peroxide did not significantly increase brightness when it was applied in final bleaching. The application of high temperature in D₁ stage of D₀EpD₁D₂ bleaching sequence increased pulp quality but marginally
