520 _aTraditional Bengali house, the Bangla bari was transformed as a physical structure in function, form and term over centuries and continents. A bengali house is basically a rural peasants hut to accommodate agro-economic activities and is indigenous in every respect. During the British period the humble Bengali dwelling unit was termed as bungalow in the suburbs, represented symbol of social status. As a global phenomena the bungalow was both urban and suburban, expression of political, cultural, social and economic functions. Whatever the function was the bungalow represented a wide variety of physical forms. These house forms, though were evolved versions of bengali edifices, had gradually changed its original characteristics over time and space and sometimes deformed at a great scale to be termed as a bungalow. This process of change and development had started in 1600. They are exhibiting regenerating types by adding or subtracting characteristics to the original type, and sometimes are of extreme in expression as the ranch bungalow of the USA and the modern bungalows of Bangladesh.
