520 _aDecommissioning is a process of dismantling an installed structure and taking everything out of the site. The oil and gas industry especially the offshore industry is now moving towards deeper water and most of the shallow water installations may become idle as the most of the shallow water fields are coming closer to the end of their field life. Now the concern is on how to deal with the platforms that are about to cease the productions in the near future.Thethesis focussesto understand the process of decommissioning. While doing soit talks about the regulation and guidelines available across the world and in Thailand for decommissioning the fixed offshore structures with specific focus on steel fixed jacketed platforms. This document will also talk about the options available in decommissioning and financial and non-financial benefit associated with it from the operator point of view. From the point of view of the contractor for execution of decommissioning, the thesis focuses on building a business model for the decommissioning of oil and gas platforms. In this thesis the cost drivers in the processof decommissioning were found outand then listed. The cost drivers are necessary to build a cash flow model to understand the feasibility of the business. Different types of cash flow models are made and financial criteria are placed up-front to carry out the feasibility analysis for looking the project as a new businessexpanded by an existing fabrication contracting company. The results are drawn and the conclusions are presented. The analyses havecertain limitations and it provides the scope for other persons to carry out a further study in the future.
