520 _aThis thesis deal with (1) predictions of ultimate carrying capacity of piles driven in Bangkok subsoils (2) comparisons of cone resistance, driving resistance and measured ultimate pile loads and (3) the prediction of pore pressures during pile driving. The results showed that 'Total stress method' ,'Effective stress method' and Dutch cone tests gave a good estimation of the ultimate load of long pile driven into Bangkok subsoils. CHIN's method overestimated the ultimate loads. Driving formulae seemed to under predict the ultimate loads and had to be corrected before applying to Bangkok area. Good correlations were obtained among cone resistance, driving resistance and measured ultimate loads. The theory of an expanding cavity seemed to under predict the excess pore pressures generated by a single pile, particularly at deeper levels. Of the methods available for the prediction of ultimate pile loads, the analysis based on Dutch cone tests data appeared to offer great advantages over all the others, and predictions based on the results from their tests were consistently good.
