520 _aThe study aimed to evaluate the climate change effects on crop suitability in South Cotabato, Philippines using Geographic Information Systems. Theclimate data were considered as the dynamic factors while the crop environment factors were considered constant. The climatic factors were average annual rainfall, average annual minimum temperature, average annual maximum temperature, and average annualrelative humidity. The crop environment factors were the soil type, soil fertility, slope, aspect, and elevation. The data considered was from 1981 {u2013}2011. This was then divided into two time frames, 1981 {u2013}1996 and 1997 {u2013}2011. Crop suitability maps and yield maps were generated for each time frame. From the maps, changes of crop suitability and yield were obtained.South Cotabato was more suitable in growing crops for the second time frame 1997 {u2013}2011. There was an increased in highly suitable areafor asparagus, banana, and pineapple by 1.69%, 4.01%, and 89.69%, respectively. Suitable area for asparagus and pineapple had increased by 2.79% and 16.20%, respectively while banana has shown decreased by 5.78%. Moderately suitable area has increased to 8.22%, and 3.11% for asparagus and banana, respectively while decreased by 53.56% for pineapple. Marginally suitable area has increased for asparagus by 35.55%, however it has shown decreased by 1.14% and 33.14% for banana and pineapple, respectively. Not suitable area for asparagus and banana has shown increased by 96.91% and 0.8%, respectively while for pineapple, it has shown increased in not suitable area by 7.39%.From the generated yield maps in response to climate change, it showed an increased in yield for all three crops used in the study with respect to the yield category made. Asparagus has shown increased in yield by 54.0% in the most suitable yield category and decreased in suitable category by 47.43% and the rest lower category has decreased 100%. Whereas, banana and asparagus had shown increased in yield by 100% on the highest yield category.Directions of the geographic shift were obtained. Marginally suitable area of Asparagus has shifted 46.60km southwest while the not suitable areahas shifted 3.94km northeast. Cavendish banana highly suitable and suitable areas had shifted 7.20km and 5.21km northeast, respectively. Pineapple highly suitable area has shifted 4.67km northeast, while its suitable, moderately suitable, and not suitable had shifted 6.02km southeast, 6.99km southeast, and 14.35km northeast, respectively.
