| 520 | _aRobotic technology is an ever changing dynamic field which creates intelligent machines that facilitate various day to day activities. Robotics in the industrial setting is increasingly becoming popular. Through this report the mechanical design, methodology, and testing procedures in constructing a Tree Climbing Robot is described. The main purpose is to design a robot that could climb a tree successfully. This report consists of a review of a Tree Climbing Robot and its effectiveness in executing the process, the considerations taken into account when designing, the initial robotic design, the final design, mechanical analysis, programming structure, and the final results of its performance. Initially, a background research was conducted on already existing climbing robots. A prototype was then built based on the concepts. This was then tested and the effectiveness was determined. The main focus in designing a Tree Climbing Robot is the mechanical structure and method of gripping. The mechanical structure is designed in such a way that it could resist the gravitational forces and move upwards using successive upper body and lower body motions. The gripping is designed to hold the structure onto the tree supporting its movement upwards. The final results conclude that the Tree Climbing Robot could successfully climb trees of diameters between 20 cm to 40 cm. | ||
