| 520 | _aLaboratory experiments were carried out to reveal the characteristics of Saraburi landfill leachate and its biodegradability. It was found that the leachate is suitable for biological treatment but deficient in phosphorus. The biodegradable fraction and nutrient limitation were presented in term of BOD: COD ratio about 0.60 and BOD: N: P ratio about 100: 13 :0.04 respectively. Long te1m BOD dete1mination at different polyphosphate concentration revealed the positive effect of phosphorus dosage in the form of equal amount of K2HP04. However, this effect wasn't obvious when lower the BOD: P ratio to below 100:1.00. The optimum concentration of polyphosphate for aerobic treatment was found by lab-scale experiments using a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) system. Various concentrations of K2HP04 were added and the efficiency of system in term of COD, BOD5 and TKN removal from the effluent of reactors analyzed. The BOD: P ratio about 100:1 was the optimum concentration of K2HP04 because the increasing of the efficiency was presented and maintained when the ratio less than 100: 1.00. the overall enhancement in efficiency reached 86%, 94% and 79% for COD, BOD and TKN removal respectively. As an alternative for leachate treatment leachate re-circulation has been tested. Using landfill simulation reactor with different kind of waste material. Fresh waste, pre-treated waste (2 months composted) and a 50:50 mixture of pre-treated waste with mature compost. Pre-treated waste had a highest potential for treated landfill leachate the efficiency was 78% and 64% for COD removal and BOD removal respectively. While, leachate re-circulation system wasn't significant for nitrogen removal. Composting plus pre-treated waste as well as pre-treated waste, 19% for COD removal and 17% for BOD removal. Nevertheless, fresh waste didn't have potential for used to treat landfill leachate because it didn't have significant of organic removal. The characteristics at the same time of recycling leachate in bioreactor was similar with landfill simulation reactor that used fresh waste, higher contaminated substrates than pretreated waste and mixed waste. This event results from the degree of landfill stabilization. | ||
