520 _aIn this thesis, three type of in-situ tests were performed namely : Dutch Cone Penetrometer test, Field Vane Shear test and Pressuremeter test. The Field Vane test gives the in-situ undrained strength of soil. A Dutch Cone test can yield cone resistance (gc.) and local friction (fs) {u2022} The Pressuremeter test yields several parameters, namely: horizontal earth. pressure at rest (Po) , yield pressure (Py) , limit pressure (pl) undrained Young's modulus (Eu ) and undrained shear strength (Sup) {u2022} The undrained Young's modulus (Eu) and undrained shear strength (Sup) were obtained by the cavity expansion theory of GIBSO and ANDERSON ( 1961 ) . The tests were carried out in the AlT campus at four sites. In each site, each of the three in-situ tests were done in five location. The average in-situ soil properties obtained were correlate. The Field Vane undrained strength (Suv) were correlated with the cone resistance (gc) an local friction (fs) abstained by Dutch Cone tests and found the following relationships: SUV = 9c /15.30 = fs/0.59 ( for weathered clay) suv = gc / 16.4 - fs/ 0.61 ( for soft clay) Furthermore, the Field Vane undrained strength (Suv) were corrected with the undrained shear strength (Sup) and undrained Young's modulus (Eu) derived by Pressuremeter test and establish the following relationship: SUV = Sup/1 .2O = Eu/145 (Soft and weathered) For staff Clay, the author was able to collate Dutch Cone resistance (gc) and Pressuremeter soil parameters as follows: gc = 19.4 Sup = Eu /4.5 ( for stiff clay) The correlation obtained in this research work has been compared and discussed in relation with the results given by other investigators. It is recommended that the soil parameters obtained in this study together with their correlation factors can be used in the evaluation of design parameters for Rangsit clay.
