520 _aThis study is an attempt to develop a stepwise detailed environmental impact assessment guidelines for the multi-purpose dam projects. These guidelines are designed to provide environmental planners, analysts, and impacts assessors with specific techniques and tools that can be used to assess and predict the environmental impacts of multi-purpose dam project. Furthermore; the tools and techniques presented have all been and are currently being used oy laboratories, universities, institutes and authorities in conducting environmental impact assessment of the project. Chapter I and II encompass the necessity and methodologies of the environmental impacts assessment and some criticisms. Chapter III discusses the description of the project with an example, addresses tile identification of the environ1r:ental impacts components and important activities of the project and presents some typical methodologies for the identification and prediction. Chapter IV gives details of methods or models for prediction and assessment of the environmental impacts resulting from the implementation of the project, provides examples to help the readers' understanding for the methods and models. Chapter V deals with a relatively new area of concerned, namely, monitoring programs and instrumental needs. Chapter VI discusses guides for practice and policy. Chapter VII provides the results of case studies for the multi-purpose dam project in Thai and. Finally, Chapter VIII presents conclusion and recommendation f or using these guidelines.
