520 _aThe effect of enamel coating on the specific draft requirements of disc plough was studied. The experiments were conducted in a stubbled paddy field of Bangkok clay soil. A steel-sheet disc-shaped plate was fabricated and coated with enamel. The performance of a disc plough with and without this plate fixed on it was evaluated. Effects of soil-moisture content, disc angle, tilt angle and forward speed on the specific draft requirements of the enamel -coated and uncoated disc ploughs were also studied. Three levels of average soil moisture content studied were 33.4%, 29.4% and 23.3% (d.b.), three disc angles were 40°, 45° and 50°, three tilt angles were 17°, 20° and 23° and three average forward speeds were 3, 4 and 5 km/h. The depth of ploughing was constant throughout the experiments. It was observed that at all soil moisture content, the enamel coating reduced the specific draft requirements of disc plough. The overall reduction in the specific draft was in the range of 3.8% to 21.5% depending on the soil moisture content, disc angle, tilt angle and forward speed. This reduction was found statistically significant. At all soil moisture contents and disc angles, the maximum reduction in the specific draft due to enamel coating was found at 23° tilt angle and 5 km/h forward speed. The reduction in the specific draft was found to increase with an increase in soil moisture content. Also increase in the soil-moisture content showed decrease in the specific draft for both the uncoated and enamel coated discs. However the rate of decrease was more in case of enamel coated disc. An increase in tilt angle showed decrease in specific draft requirements of both the discs but the rate of decrease was more in case of enamel coated disc. Increase in forward speed had a tendency to increase the draft sharply for both disc ploughs. However, rate of increase was less in case of enamel coated disc plough. The disc angle setting of more than 45° showed an increase in the specific draft requirements for both the discs.
