520 _aHua Hin area mainly consists of high grade metamorphic rocks and marine deposits. The rocks include gneiss, schist, calc-silicate and marble and are considered pre-Cambrian. Quaternary marine deposit is sand and clay mixed at various proportions and gravel beds. Gneiss is pre dominant rock occuring all over the area. The gneiss and calc-silicate rocks of this area is little effected by weathering, where as schist is appreciably weathered. There are a number of marine terraces suggesting several marine transgressions and/or tectonic uplifts . The surficial deposits of the area are beach, dune, landslide, talus and colluviums. Marine deposit form the foundation soil of the area. These soils can withstand a safe bearing pressure of 15 to 25 ton/m2 , if a shallow footing. of about 1.10 m width is placed at a depth of 1.00 to 2.50 m. Piles, of sizes 0.40mx0.40m to 0.60mx0.60m, to a depth of 10.00 to 13.00 m will have capacity in the range of 30.00 to 40.00 tons. the depth to bed rock within the town is greater than 20.00 m, the deepest drill hole put within the municipality. Hua Hin does not have serious problem with geologic phenomena like earthquake, flooding, landslide. But waste disposal site and system does need some attention. There is no usable water resources within the limit of study area. However, Hua Hin receives enough water for town from Pranbuti and Petchburi. The agricultural activities depend on the rain water. Most of the construction materials like sand, concrete aggregates are imported from Pranburi. Marble, for dimension stone, and vein quartz, for glass industries, are only natural resources exploited in Hua Hin.
