520 _aFor a large number of applications conventional methods for estimating an origin-destination matrix become too expensive to use. The present research has used the entropy maximizing method (attached in SATURN computer mode) to estimate the 0-D matrix from some traffic volume counts of Bangkok Expressway network. Two conventional techniques (license plate and roadside interview) were employed to conduct the observed 0-D matrices. The observation were done in three time duration (1) 07.00-09.00 hrs., (2) 12.00-14.00 hrs. and (3) 16.Q0-18.00 hrs. Three sets of SATURN runs, (1) run with all traffic counts available and good guessing prior matrix, (2) run with parts of traffic counts and good guessing prior matrix, and (3) run with all traffic volume counts but no prior matrix guessing, were done to obtain the estimated 0-D matrices. The comparisons of observed and estimated 0-D matrices indicates that the use of entropy maximizing method for the low trip interchange is not suitable but the mod e l performed better in the higher range of trip interchange. Therefore some modifications (e.g. to incorporate trip impedance between entrance and exit) were recommended.
